Extendicare Faces Class Action - UPDATE
We discussed a class-action lawsuit that had been filed aginst Extendicare, one of the largest nursing home chains in North America, in our previous blog. The suit, which was originally filed in King County Superior Court in the State of Washington, has since been moved to U.S. District Court in Seattle, Washington and has been expanded to include allegations that Extendicare homes admitted residents without regard to their healthcare needs in order to increase profits. The suit alleges that Extendicare violated consumer protection laws by advertising high quality, skilled nursing care and not providing same. Extendicare is also accused of violating a state law barring nursing homes from forcing residents to sign a form waiving liability for injury or property loss.
