Illinois Nursing Home Resident Beaten To Death - UPDATE
On June 29, 2008, we discussed the Illinois wrongful death of nursing home resident, Ivory Jackson. Mr. Jackson's roommate, Solomon Owasanoye was charged with First-Degree murder on June 28, 2008 in the death of his nursing home roommate, Ivory Jackson. Mr. Owasanoye, 50, who suffered from dementia, was a resident at All Faith Pavillion, a Renaissance facility located in Illinois, who suffered from dementia.
On the day of the murder, staff members saw Mr. Owasanoye sitting outside his room with bloody shoes and hands. When they entered the room, staff found Mr. Jackson, 78, barely responsive and bleeding from his face and head. He had been beaten with a clock radio. Mr. Jackson was hospitalized at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois. He died on June 23, 2008.
The Illinois Department of Public Health has acknowledged that All Faith Pavillion has had a history of public health violations and has paid at least $80,000 since 2004 for Class "A" violations. These type violations include neglecting patients, failing to instruct staff, or other behavior that results in the "substantial probability that death or serious mental or physical harm will result". The violations at this nursing home include at least two wrongful deaths due to neglect.
