Two Illinois Nursing Home Residents Die In Fire

Sixty-seven year old Igor Shteyn died in a fire at a Niles, Illinois nursing home on May 14, 2008. The fire, which appears to have been caused by smoldering smoking materials in a closet in Shteyn's third-floor room, also killed Shteyn's roommate, Naum Berdichevsky, 76. The wrongful death lawsuit filed by Shteyn's children alleges that the nursing home employees at Hampton Plaza were not adequately trained to handle a fire and did not have an adequate fire prevention system. The Niles Police Department continues to investigate. To read more about this topic, go to Nursing Home Sued for Negligence After Fatal Fire
